Multi book review

Okay, I have been sick and so I didn't feel much like blogging, but I did end up reading. So this review is for four books

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series

Book 2: Sea of Monsters 288 pages

Book 3: The Titan's Curse 320 pages

Book 4: Battle for the Labyrinth 384 pages

Book 5: The Last Olympian 400 pages

What are they about: In the first book, Percy uncovers a plot. There is a titan wanting to break free from his prison and he has finally found a way to do that. Only the gods are turning a blind eye to the things that are going bad. So Percy and his friends take Kronos on.

Why I liked it: It was a great story and I am that glad I got see more of Percy and his friends. It turned out really well and now I am wanting more stories.

I give the series a 41/2 out of 5.

Serpent Tide

Serpent Tide by K.L. Fogg

What it's about: A rich boy should have everything he wants, right? Welsey is a rich boy who dreams of being just a normal kid. His mom is a control freak and it makes his life very had. Then he finally talks his mom into buying him a dog for his birthday. He meets the Vet that is strangly familliar and invited to a summer day camp with horses. There he learns that the Vet had a sister and nephew that died years before. After doing some investiagting, Wesley finds out that he is the nephew and his dad is still alive. The only problem is that his 'Mom' is not ready to give up her son.

Why I liked it: It gives you a little insight on how the rich might feel sometimes. The characters were funny and real feeling, so it made it feel real.

I give it a 4 1/2 out of 5.

Book Review

So here we have a blog and we randomly update it. So I decided to do a little book review after I read a book. Reading is one of my favorite things. I believe there is a book genre for everyone. Just because I like something, doesn't mean you will. But reading different things can open up new worlds. I find these connections with books, so that when I am reading a space adventure or about a fantasy land, I can find something that calls to me. I pretty much will read anything, but my currant favorite is fantasy. With that said, here is the first book review.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan 392 pages

About the book: Percy is demigod. Only he doesn't know this at first. Strange things always seem to happen to him. Finally, his mom decides to send him to summer camp. Only this is no ordinary summer camp. It is a summer camp filled with other demigods just like him. He soon learns about his real father and all about this other world that is going on right alongside the other one. Zeus Lightening Bolt is stolen and they think Percy took it. So he is sent on a quest to either return it or find it. He will have the help of two companions along the way.

That's all I really want to say about the plot, in case someone wants to read it.

Why I liked it: I love how the author took myths and put them in our world. You get a little history lesson on the greek myths and see how they might be today. Zeus in a powersuit, Ares in black leather. The author did put his own spin on things, but does it in away to make you really believe that Mount Olympis could be on the 600th floor of the Empire State building. I have seen this book series for years now. I don't know what turned me off from picking it up. The cover? The title? Maybe even the plotline? They are making this into a movie, which is what changed my mind. I watch the trailer and thought any movie that cool looking has to be an excellant book, so for my birthday Cory bought me the first book. What can I say? I fell in love, so with the rest of my birthday money I bought the whole set. I can't wait it find out what happenes to Percy next.

I am going to give this book a 4 out of 5 because it is an excellant book but something in the marketing deal caused me to miss out on it for years.

So I highly recommend this book. It's enjoyable and fun for the whole family.

The Buzz

Last friday Cory had a day off. Since it would be the only one for the next couple of weeks, he wanted a honey do list(really, he asked for one) to work on. So I wrote down several things that need to get done and went to work. He then told me to take his gameboy and game so he wouldn't be tempted to just play. As I am pulling out of the yard, he is then trying to talk his way back into getting his game. The first thing on the list was mowing the lawn and cleaning up the yard for winter. I go to work and get a garbled message at about noon. It was from Cory and I couldn't understand him. I thought he was pranking me. So about half an hour, he calls back. I can understand him this time. He asked me to come home because he was hurt. So the bad wife that I am, I immediately think that he is trying to get his game back, so I told him that I would get there as soon as I finished at mom's. I hang up and talked to mom as I am finishing up. She agrees to let me go. I then start to worry that this is not a prank. I leave to go home. I get home and I smell that kind of campfire woody smell. I go in the house and it is stronger. I follow it to our bathroom and there is Cory with his face in the shower head. His face was burnt. Apparently when he was mowing the lawn, he went to move the burn barrel away to mow that area. In the barrel he noticed wasps. So he decided to burn them quickly out. He got newspaper and gas and put it in the barrel. He couldn't find the matches so he used a lighter. It caused a flash fire. He immediately went inside to cool it down. He has a small burn on his wrist, the hair on his right arm was burned off, luckily no burns on the rest of the arm. His neck got hit as well as his chin, lips, nose, cheeks, eyelids. His eyebrows, eyelashes and about an inch into his hairline. He spent the rest of the day in our bedroom with the a/c running at full blast. He had to wrap up in blankets to keep the rest of him from freezing. On Saturday we went to walmart to get his haircut. Want to know something funny? He got a Buzz cut. He's doing okay, but his poor face looks so sore.

All Summer Long!

June, July and August, are all gone and now we are in September. What have we been up to? Well, as stated in the previous post, we are working several jobs. Cory is working FedEx, and the Dam job(no, it is still not getting old telling all the dam jokes) and he just finished last week at the drive in. I am still working my three jobs(FedEx, Childcare, and Theater). In the time we did get off we made the most of it. The only Drive In that we were able to see was Night at the muesum 2, it was really good, but made better because I got to snuggle up next to Cory the whole show. The day after that we went into the Scottich Fest at Thanksgiving Point. It was so fun. We met up with some of Cory's friends and we all dressed up. Cory got a new sword belt. Cory knew this would probably be our only trip in to Provo for a while, so he gave me my anniversary gift early. What, you ask? Gift card to Barnes and Noble. Yeah, he knows what I like. After an hour in the bookstore and more books than the gift card was worth later, we went to spend more time with his friends. After we left there, we went and paid a visit to Grandma and Grandpa Hansen up the provo canyon, where we spent the night. It's an awesome place. You can't help but feel relaxed. At the end of June, we had Father's day, my mom's birthday, and the projector at the Drive in break down. July started off with our Anniversary! I gave Cory the sword from Stardust. Now I don't know if you know the story, but Stardust was the first movie we watched together on our unofficial first date(he thought I aked him out new year's eve and I just didn't want him to spend it alone) We were at Pher's house and I sat on one couch and he on another. But that didn't stop him from coming over to me to explain all the good parts. What can I say? I obviously missed out on the dating gene somewhere. Luckily, he is persistent. We went and out some more rocks for our collection. My favorite-a rock apple. My other gift for him was a cool pitcure of the night sky of the day we got married. It was in the Sky Mall catalog when we went in Feburary to see his parents. It is so awesome and it means a lot to both of us. We had some friends come up and we were able to see Transformers with them. Totally loved the show, but then I guess I don't really ask for much, just to be entertained. We finally got to see the last season of Stargate Atlantis and we started and finished Lost up til season four. We have to wait until season five comes out on DVD. We also got to see Harry Potter 6, and Ice age 3 in July. Yes, we watch a lot of movies. Cory's mom decided to sell her car in July and we decided that we could afford to get one. So we are the new owners of a malibu. It runs really well and uses a lot less gas. At the end of July we were busy helping my little sister with her wedding and spending some time with the new niece and nephew James gave us. August brought Steffie's wedding. Gosh, I felt way more stressed with her wedding than I ever did with mine. The day of the wedding, Cory and I were put in charge of the kids so their parents could be with Steffie. So we did what any good aunt and uncle would do and bribed the kids to be good with treats. Not candy this time, but cool bouncey glitter balls. they had a blast with them and it kept them from really causing trouble at the temple. Then it was back home for a quick nap. Cory entertained Pher and his kids at our pool, I went and help set up for the reception. It was beautiful, but I felt rushed(might have to do with little to no sleep). Also in August came the movie GI Joe. Now I remember playing with the toys and watching the show on tv when I was little, so I was excited to see it coming to the big screen. And guess what? Wilma at the theater let us put our GI Joe swords on display. they were made before the movie, so they don't look like the ones in there, but they are still really cool. We got a lot of compliments and a few offers to buy them. Now last year we spent probably a thousand dollars or more to keep us warm through the winter, so this year we decided to get our own wood. We planned a Firewood/rafting trip. Anyone that came to help us with the firewood, we would pay for them to go rafting. It was a lot of hard work, but rafting after totally made it worth it. As September rolled in, I got to go with Cory again to work. Once with FedEx and once at the Dam. Both were a lot of fun, but I think it had more to do with who I was with and not what we were doing. So that's our summer. Love You!

April Showers bring May flowers, and what did the May flowers bring?

Okay, I know it's now offically June, but I wanted to update April and May. April began with my best friend's birthday. I had thought of several things to do-go: to the movies, make a trip to SLC, ect. What did we end up doing? Sitting in the car in front of Walmart and talking for three hours! Yes, I am a lame friend. Once I get going I can't stop. I blame it on the blood. Not only am I half german, but part spanish, part scottish and a lot of other parts I don't know. I think I have every fierce blooded people in my ancestarty line. Also the most talkiative. Most party like. Most likely to fight just for fun. Yeah, if I have kids, they are totally screwed up. Luckily my husband is mostly English, so they will love dogs and horses too. Okay, can you see now why we were in the car for three hours? I kind of ramble a lot. Back to the update. I did eventually feed her. I also invited her to come see Race to Witch Mountain, my treat. Bev, her husband Marc, Cory and Cory's brother Kyle all came to see the movie. I had to work, but a benefit to being the projectionst is that I can sit in and watch movies too. Next came Cory getting really sick again. Same thing-pneumonia. I was scared enough that I took him to the ER. They gave him a shot in the butt(is it wrong to be so amused by this?) and other drugs. He is better now. My brother Alex and his family moved to New Mexico because of his job. We are and will miss them. We finished watching my series pick-Star Trek Voyager. His pick? Kyle XY. I really loved it, though we have to wait for season three. We are bummed because season 3 is the last of it. I get the next pick, what can I torture my husband with now? In May, we started the Drive In. It's a lot of work, but I love it so. Callie, one of the drive in veterans got to paint the drive in. Guess what colors we picked? Tree frog green and a simply red. They look fab under the special lights we have to use. We are trying for a retro feel. I think it looks awesome. We have three veteran drive in workers: me at four years, Cory at one and Callie at one. We also have candy girls -Melissa and Leesa that are pretty much full time at the drive in this summer who have worked pervious summers. We seven new workers. They are all pretty awesome but by golly, it's hard training so many at once. May also brought mother's day, which was very bitersweet for me. I lost our baby in Decemeber through a miscarriage. So all the mother's day stuff was kinda sad. I would have been eight months pregnant. We got a couple of visitors in May. It started off with Cory's mom(Marsha), followed by his friends Jared and Olivia and later Tracy, Jewell and Tyler(I hope I got that right, If not, I am so sorrry) We had a lot of good talks and in the case of Jared and Olivia-I held them hostage for like eight hours(see beinging to understand) Cory also started a new job this month that he loves. He is a Flaming Gorge Dam Tour guide. Yes, I make the jokes too. Cory is being a good sport about it, I think he thinks evenually I'll get tired of it. Not happening anytime soon. He got a third job to get his car fixed. He has to drive to Dutch John for the job, so I have taken to riding my dad's bike home from work. Let me be honest, first day I thought I was going to die. From my parents to my house is about seven miles with a big hill. The second and third day I road from Fedex terminal to my parent's house(which about 3.5 miles). My buttom was totally rebeling. I ride it about two to three days a week, depending on where Cory is working. I have to say thank goodness for my Ipod shuffle. It keeps me going. Cory's birthday was at the end of May. What practical gift did he get from me? A scabbard for his Gandalf sword. For those that don't know, my husband is a sword fighter. In fact he and his friends get together for mock battles from time to time. Our front room has quite a few swords on display(and this are the show ones, not the ones he fights with) If you like swords, come over to our house and we will show you a lot. I also got him a really cool Eagle statue from Cabala's. We decided to get a pool this summer for our back yard. We figured in gas, time and the expense of going to the pool to just getting one. It's a 18x48 pool and it's great, unless you count that Cory went swimming without sunscreen and burned his shoulders and then had a very bad reaction to the pure aloe gel he bought. That was scary. So we are still around, just working hard.

Bashing On

Okay, lately there has been a lot of bashing on the Twilight Series. Some people not getting it and others just bashing it because it is popular. Now this happen back with Harry Potter too. What I have to say is that if you are not into the fantasy genre, that's fine. Don't read the books or watch the movies and if getting into a conversation about them, let people know that you just are not interested in that kind of thing. It's a lot better than tearing down someone else's feelings about things. And you didn't have to lie. The draw for the Twilight series is multible. Adults will see things different then teens and vice versa. What drew me? The girl that didn't have high self esteem, and a boy that cared for her. Everyone is looking for love. It took me 28 years to find it. Well, the romantic love, not just loving. I had a lot to love-family, friends, actors, ect. But finding that other love is hard and some times it takes a long time. Some people try on new partners frequently and others not. I am not a girly girl. In fact, I seem to be missing some things. I don't wear make up(okay, there are a few occasion, but someone has to help me.) I am only really interested in clothes to cover my body and flirting goes over my head(much to my husband's dismay sometimes) So really this series is about finding love, accepting people for who they are. Learning to love your self and accept your self. Knowing that you are worth while. In today's world, everyone(media) wants perfection. A lot of girls and women have a hard time living up to that. We are just looking for something to give us hope. If you don't want to watch or read about that, then don't. Just please don't bash it in front of me. Thanks

San Antonio Trip

Well, we are back from our trip. We went to San Antonio, Texas for Cory's dad's retirement ceremony. We left Tuesday night for Salt Lake(Lehi, whatever) because our flight was at 9:30 in the morning and we were told to be there two hours before our flight. Cory got his Cinnabon and then he hunted down some pecan bites for me(thank you love!). We flew with his brother(Kyle) and his grandmother(Grandma Bullock). his parents were at the airport to get us and we go to see their new home. Later that day, we went to the Wildlife Ranch. It was a lot of fun and there they encourage you to feed the animals. Thursday was the day of the ceremony for Brian's retirement. It was really cool. Afterwards we just hung out at the house. We had a BBQ(we were in Texas). The sister missionaries came over to eat with us. On Friday, we went to the River walk. We took a boat tour around the river walk, ate at a Mexican restaurant and visited the Alamo. Cory was a little upset because people were treating it as a tourist attraction instead of the tomb/monument that it is. Saturday we went to Sea World. We got to feed the Dolphins! I think that was Cory's favorite part. He had one wanting to be rubbed all over. When we got back to Salt Lake, we stayed the night at the Anniversary Inn. Our room was call the Capitol Retreat. We loved it. It had a hidden room behind a bookcase(it goes to the bathroom), various things to explore, a jette tub. I picked the room because Cory loves history and we could watch a themed movie with it. We watched National Treasure. It was a great trip, now we just need to get Cory over being sick.

After Thought

Ever feel like an after thought? Lately I have been feeling more and more like one. Maybe it's because I am sick and I am not a good sick person. I am feeling snappy and cross. But back to the after thought. Have you ever been sitting there while people make plans around you and you finally get ask the question "Is that okay with you?" and you are like "What? I thought you were tallking about the kids or something." and then you are kind of in a tight spot. It refuse to go along will make you be the 'meanie' and if you agree, you are stuck doing things that you don't want to do. I am the totally after thought in my family-come on fam, don't deny it. I learned a long time ago to fight my battles. Which when I do, usually the people I am fighting are like 'Are you sick?' See what I mean. I am not allowed to act out of character. I'm the one that agrees with everyone and the one who will do things that no one else wants too. My opinion is asked last and it is just assumed that I will do it. I have a hard time with this because that my ideas are usually left back burner until someone else has the same idea I had three months ago. Then I hear about how so and so said this and it is so great. Then I point out that I said the same thing months ago. 'No you didn't' 'Yes I did' No, I would have remembered' 'No you just don't listen to me.' It's like my voice is set on mute. People see my lips moving but no sound is coming out. So I am formal protesting for the After Thoughts! Let our voices be turned on! Is that okay?

Early Valentine's Day

I have to work at the theater on Valentine's day, so Cory and I decided to do it a week early. He gave me my present early, because we have a hard time not giving what we got each other right away. He gave me this really awesome necklace. It has a heart shaped stone. The stone at first looks black, but as the light changes, you can see a rainbow of colors. I love it a lot. I on the other hand got him quanitity again. I got him three DVDs, popcorn and other treats. We watched one of the movies on Saturday. It was called the High and the Mighty and starred John Wayne. It wasn't either of us was expecting. More of a drama. It was still very good. We went to lunch at Hollowmoon Cafe and it was not crowded at all. When we went home, I decided to wear all my "pretty nightgowns" the rest of the day. When I say all, it is because they had a bad habit of not staying on. I happened to get sick, so that kinda through some better plans out the window, but we still had fun together and really that's what is all about, right? Happy Valentine's Day to couples everywhere! and to the still singles out there-Happy Single Awareness Day!

Girls Day Out

On saturday morning; Bev, Kamie and I all went to Provo to celebrate Kamie's birthday which was on Sunday. I was feeling sick and sore before Bev came and got me and the car ride was not fun(get car sick) But just hanging out with them again was totally worth it. See before we all got married we used to work at Stewart's Market together in Roosevelt. We became really close friends and would go out with each other all the time. These are the kind of friends that you miss when you aren't around them and even if you don't do anything with them for months on end, they are still there for you. Then Bev and Kamie got engaged and I quit Stewart's and we did less with each other. We still hung out together, but it was harder because Kamie's guy did not like me or my family very much. So a lot of times we would plan something and then at the last minute she would back out. I figured it was her guy finding out that I was going and wouldn't let her come. Honestly don't know if it was true or not, but that's how I felt. Then they both got married, and Bev moved to Salt Lake(okay it was Bountiful). We still did things together, but it ususally centered around birthdays and Harry Potter movies(okay Bev and me have seen every harry potter movie together but the first two) And I hardly saw Kamie at all and we lived in the same town. Then last year, I got engaged and married, Bev moved back home and Kamie kicked her guy to the curb. We were like we can do more things together yeah!!! That isn't what happened. If you know me, you know that I am not the best keeper upper. So Bev called me a week ago to ask what we were going to do with Kamie for her birthday. We throw around ideas, disguarding them. then we hit on a fact. Bev and I were married and Kamie was not. I so totaly remember feeing the fifth wheel, so we decided to ditch the husbands(sorry, honey-Love you!) Then the plan began to take shape. Kamie likes shopping, let's go shopping. Let's go to Park City outlets, how about Provo Mall(okay it's acutally the mall on Universarty, and I had a motive-Pretzel maker's pretzel bites). When we stopped to get Kamie and I saw how happy she was, if I was dying, legs cut off, whatever I was glad we decided to go. We talked all the way in to Provo-if you know me, then you know that this is quite the thing, I usually sleep. We talked about family, friends, dating, husbands, jobs, ect. It was great to catch up. We got to the mall, and guess what the first thing we buy is? Pretzel bites. We looked at shops, bought stuff. Totally rocked Kamie's world by having her make a bear at Build a Bear. We ate at a Chinese Buffet and then we went to Cosco. It's evil there! It was sample day! Really, we had just as much fun there as we did at the mall. I bought myself a magic bullet blender. The box is so pretty. I can't wait to use it. Smoothies, here I come. Then we headed home. Again we talked about a variety of things. One thing we decided was to try to make girls day/night/morning/afternoon/whatever out a monthly thing at least. So we are going to try. Wish us luck.

Hi

This is my first blog. Me and Cory are quite characters. He loves swords and fantasy. And I love him and fantasy so it works out great. We're happy newly weds and we invite you to stay posted on our journey together.
